Start : Zing Zing Bar (0815 Hrs)
End : Sarchu (1730 Hrs)
Distance: 54 Kms
Terrain: Uphill, Off roads with spectacular landscapes and we enjoyed the snow covered mountains
It's too windy, no obstacle flat area, temperature is too low. Freezing wind is cruising inside the tent. Two layers of thermals, balaclava, scull cap and the very thick sleeping bag even struggling to keep us warm. It's extremely hard for me to even hold the pen to write something in my diary. Thin air making all this situation a bit more complicated. Today it's the last day on the land of Himachal Pradesh; yes we are at Sarchu camping just before the Jammu Kashmir check post near to the river. So from tomorrow, it would be a new journey on a new land.
After the last night storm, it was good to see the Sun shining already when we woke up from bed. By looking at the clear weather, we made it really quick and started riding along with Jinji and Bram; good achievement first time we could able to start with them. Morning breakfast with the same option of Aalu Paratha and Bread Omelette did not satisfy our test buds, but did provide all the fuel we needed to conquer the summit of Baralacha La. The journey from Zing Zing Bar to Baralacha La was filled with some mesmerizing landscapes, snow covered roads and the unforgettable view of Deepak Tal. First time snow experience made me feel something entirely different. In sometime we all were throwing snow balls to each other. It was totally kiddish, but it was fun.
It was altogether a different experience for us to stand on that altitude of 16 K feet. The snow covered mountains and the low visibility misty air experienced us almost a new world. Freezing cold climate and thin air no more been so difficult for us. It was a different feeling to conquer the summit and riding on that altitude.
After spending sometime on the peak, we enjoyed the down hill to Bharatpur and later enjoyed a very good lunch at a Tibetan hotel. I will never forget the mouth watering mutton curry; may be my stomach and taste buds were desperately wanted to experience something different.
Right after the lunch we were about to start and we could sense some bad weather conditions ahead. But after confirmation from few motorcycle riders, we started towards Sarchu. It was drizzling, so we had to put on the rain cuts. The Roads from Bharatpur was quite flat, so it was very relaxing for us. We also spent sometime clicking pictures with some funny poses. Suddenly three bulleteers crossed us and one of them turned back. And guess the coincidence, it was Sahej, Ashok and Ashwin. We never thought, we would cross each other somewhere and even we thought they might have crossed us. It was quite a surprising moment and we decided to pitch tent together tonight. After a few photo click, with the same plan we headed towards Sarchu. The road from Bharatpur to Sarchu is just amazing with those snow cap mountains and green grass lands spread over kilometers.
While I was heading the group, suddenly I saw no one coming from back. The road was quite straight and I could really see kilometers. I had no choice apart from going back in search of them. I had to cover around 7-8 KM against the wind and moreover it was uphill. And when I found them, they were at a satellite phone booth. I was really annoyed, as they did not stop me and I had to ride extra kilometers today.
Till that point everything was going good and suddenly Vijesh's carrier got dislocated. The worst thing that had to happen, when we are not carrying any extra bolts. At least thanks to god there was no damage to the disk break and spokes. Though we did not find the bolt, we managed to fix the same with a bolt from the bottle carrier.
When we reached Sarchu, found Bram and Jinji already with their tent pitched. We took sometime to decide the place to pitch the tent. It was first time for Sahej and team, so we had to help them pitching the tent. We all caught up at the near by dhaba along with Jinji and Bram. It was a nice get-together followed by a nice dinner.
I guess Ashwin just moved to the near by Dhaba looking at the freezing windy climate. Because of the thin air, we are also struggling to get sleep. But can't help, we have to lay down and take rest. Hope these three guys will be fine till next morning, as first time in this trip they are staying in tent.
